Why The New York Times Is Retiring the Term 'Commentary'

 The principal Op-Ed page in The New York Times welcomed the world on Sept. 21, 1970. It was so named on the grounds that it showed up inverse the article page and not (as many actually accept) in light of the fact that it would offer perspectives in spite of the paper's.
